Sheena C. Mair

Associate Attorney

Biography

Sheena is a Scottish Solicitor who was admitted to the Roll of Solicitors in Scotland in 2004 and has since worked primarily in criminal defence.  She graduated from the University of Aberdeen with her Law Degree (LL.B.) and thereafter completed her Post – Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice (Dip. LP) at the same University.  Sheena has worked solely in firms dealing with civil and criminal court work, quickly specialising in what is her passion, criminal defence.

Sheena started her own firm in Scotland exclusively dealing with criminal court matters which saw her travel the length and breadth of Scotland defending clients in court and prisons in all types of criminal cases including assault, breach of the peace, road traffic, drugs offences, sexual offences, murder, theft, robbery, terrorism and parole matters.

She has always fought hard on behalf of her clients to ensure a fair trial and equality, with human rights also being at the forefront.  For a number of years before coming to the Turks and Caicos Islands, together with running her own firm, Sheena was also a volunteer mentoring Law students at the University of Aberdeen to give them an insight into work as a Criminal Defence Solicitor.

Whilst in the Turks and Caicos Islands Sheena has had a number of successful cases including in the Court of Appeal.  Cases include Gibson v R  (successful appeal against murder conviction) Nation v. R and Kenson v R (successful appeals against sexual offence convictions) Cuesta v R (successful appeal against sentence) R v Missick (exceptional circumstances found in plea in mitigation) R v Cesar (successful Application to exclude Identification evidence resulting in acquittal).

When Sheena is not fighting the good fight for truth and justice, she is a fanatic of her beloved Hibernian Football Club and follows them without fail each week.  She is also an animal lover and dotes on her little Princess Great Dane, Emee.  Sheena is also a Committee member on the Pro Bono Committee for the Turks and Caicos Islands.
