B. St. Michael Hylton O.J., KC, a renowned Jamaican atorney, has been appointed to the Turks and Caicos Islands Court of Appeal. He has a long career in both public and commercial sectors, having worked for a law company before becoming Solicitor General of Jamaica. He served as the General Legal Council’s chair from 2010 to 2016, and presided over other regulatory bodies. He also served as Commissioner at the Regional Judicial and Legal Services Commission from 2016 to 2022.
Hylton has writen numerous legal publications and given numerous speeches at conferences both locally and abroad. He is licensed to practice law in Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, St. Kits & Nevis, Grenada, the Bri sh Virgin Islands, and Belize. His expertise lies in dealing with business and constitutional problems, with a history of winning over 35 appeals before the Judicial Commitee of the Privy Council.
Hylton has made significant contributions to Caribbean jurisprudence and the legal profession, including serving as a tutor at the Norman Manley Law School, participating in the Rules Commitee of the Jamaican Supreme Court, and serving as a consultant to the group in charge of creating the Appellate Jurisdiction Rules for the Caribbean Court of Justice. He has also served as the West Indian Law Journal’s assistant editor and chaired the Private Sector Organization group on the revision of insolvency legislation.
