The Turks and Caicos Islands Golf Association (TCIGA) was well represented at the National Sports Governing Body Annual General Meeting (AGM) held on Wednesday evening under the theme “One Direction: Aligning Vision, Action, and Impact.” The AGM, hosted by the Sports Commission at the Gustavus Lightbourne Sports Complex, brought together the leadership of all registered National Sports Governing Bodies (NSGBs) in a show of national solidarity and forward planning for the future of sports in the TCI.
The AGM comprised all the national sporting federations including the TCI Golf Association, TCI Cycling Federation, TCI Volleyball Federation, TCI Swim Federation, TCI Rugby Football Union, TCI Sailing Association, TCI Basketball Federation, TCI Football Association, TCI Softball Federation, TCI Commonwealth Games Association, and the TCI Amateur Athletic Association.
All federation representatives were invited to provide a report on their organization’s highlights for 2024. Vice President of TCIGA, Mr. Mark Fulford delivered remarks on behalf of the Golf Association. He reaffirmed TCIGA’s commitment to strengthening compliance, governance, and grassroots development. “This AGM represents more than just a statutory meeting,” Fulford stated. “It is a collective recommitment to elevating the standards of sport governance and performance across the board. TCIGA is fully aligned with the Commission’s goals and has taken proactive steps to demonstrate our commitment.”
Mr. Fulford also announced an exciting youth outreach initiative set to launch this year: “We will begin reaching out directly to every high school across the islands to identify students with strong hand-eye coordination to participate in golf tryouts. Our vision is to cultivate a new generation of talented golfers who can proudly represent the Turks and Caicos Islands on the regional and international stage.”
Minister of Education, Youth, Sports and Social Services, Hon. Rachel Taylor, commended the federations for their resilience and collaboration. She offered her ministry’s continued assistance and emphasized the importance of data reporting, strategic planning, and talent development, urging federations to align their internal governance with national goals. “The future of sports in the TCI requires unity of purpose, institutional discipline, and a renewed commitment to excellence” she noted.
Director of Sports, Mr. Jarrett Forbes delivered a comprehensive presentation outlining the year’s highlights, key milestones, and upcoming priorities, including the development of high-performance environments and support for youth talent.
The TCIGA expresses gratitude to the Sports Commission for its continued partnership and pledges to play an active role in the transformation and professionalization of sport in the Turks and Caicos Islands.
