Civil Judge, Carlos Simons QC Appointed to the Bench

Carlos Simons

Turks and Caicos Islander and Queen’s Counsel, Carlos Simons has once again been appointed a judge to the Supreme Court of the Turks and Caicos Islands. His appointment took effect from April 1, 2021.

Judge Simons’ assignment will see him serve on the bench for one year. Last year, his appointment in 2020, made him the first indigenous Turks and Caicos Islander to become a judge in the Islands.

Following the recommendation of the Judicial Services Commission, Simons was sworn in by Governor Nigel Dakin for the second time.

Commenting on the appointment – Managing Partner Fulford, said that he welcomed the appointment for a second time a local who is well deserving, highly competent with a wealth of experience and with the right temperament for the job.

“ With the progressive vision of Chief Justice Mabel Agyemang who have established our first Judicial Education Institute, she has paved the way for more locals to ascend to the Bench and my hope is for more TC Islanders to follow the footsteps of Simmons J and take a more active role in seeking judicial office in our homeland.” Simons J was admitted to the TCI Bar in January 1984, appointed as Queen’s Counsel in January 2002 and as an Officer of the Order of the British Empire in June 2002; Judge Simons brings to the post a wealth of experience and knowledge, having led his law firm’s – Miller Simons O’Sullivan – civil and commercial division for many years.
