Anthony Stepnen Gruchot Appointed Supreme Court Judge in Turks & Caicos Islands

Anthony Stephen Gruchot

New Supreme Court Judge appointed for Civil Cases in Turks and Caicos Islands, Anthony Stephen Gruchot was sworn in by His Excellency the Governor Nigel Dakin on August 5th, 2022, as a Judge of the Supreme Court of the Turks and Caicos Islands. His Lordship will begin duties on 1st September 2022.

Justice Gruchot is a graduate of the Sheffield Hallam University in England and he obtained his Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice from Sheffield University, England, in 1998.

He was admitted as a solicitor of England and Wales in April 2000 and was called to the Bar of England and Wales as a Barrister through Lincoln’s Inn in November 2006.

He practised in Sheffield England for seven years and then in Doncaster England for four years where he practised in family matters, civil and commercial litigation, estates and trusts, landlord and tenant disputes, property disputes, construction matters and professional negligence. He was an active member of the Sheffield and District Law Society, latterly serving as its Vice President in 2011.

His Lordship relocated to the Turks and Caicos Islands in October 2011 and was called to the Bar in the Turks and Caicos Islands in January 2012. He began his career at the Bar here with Miller Simons O’Sullivan where he was involved in commercial and civil litigation.

In December 2012 together with Stephen Wilson QC he opened the Turks and Caicos Islands office of Graham Thompson & Co where he continued practicing in commercial and civil litigation before the Magistrate’s Court, Supreme Court and Court of Appeal, as well as employment law before the Labour Tribunal and Labour Commissioner. From 2017 he has regularly sat as an acting Magistrate.
