Message from United Way TCI Chairman Mark A Fulford LLB on Hurricane Dorian Relief efforts for the Bahamas

United Way

As Chairman of United Way TCI, which is the nearest chapter to the hard hit Bahamas, we – the Directors and Executives held an emergency meeting of the Board Of Directors, followed by a Volunteers meeting to formulate plans to coordinate and organize relief efforts for hurricane Dorian victims in our sister nation, The Bahamas. On behalf of my board of Directors we felt that immediate action from Turks and Caicos was necessary as we are family and friends of the people of the Bahamas!

Because of heightened interest amongst Turks and Caicos islanders and our guests, we are setting up three hurricane relief collection locations namely United Way TCI Office, Community Fellowship Centre, and Gustavus Lighthbourne Sports Complex over the next two days throughout Providenciales to receive donated urgent needs items. United Way TCI remains open to partnering with other local agencies who have commenced collection efforts of relief items.

We will be partnering with the Betty K, Provo Stevedooring and ADRA in the Bahamas to load, transport and receive the donated items.

United Way Board Directors have donated $10,000.00 so far to this effort and we are currently accepting cash donations for onward transmission for Bahamas Hurricane Relief.

This was the driving force behind the desire to replicate the success of the United Way model in the Turks & Caicos Islands. United Way Turks & Caicos Islands is comprised of 15 Board Directors with diverse sectors of our society and business community. Together we set the goals for UWTCI and envision a community where all individuals and families achieve their human potential through Education. Our Mission is to improve lives by cultivating and inspiring the caring power of the community to advance the common good of all which is being executed by an Executive Director and Staff supported by hundreds of volunteers.
